SUMMARY:Promoting Student Independence: Reducing Reliance on 1:1 Paraprofessionals
DESCRIPTION:In response to increasingly complex student support needs\, many schools have expanded the use of 1:1 paraprofessional support. While this approach is often implemented with the best intentions\, reliance on intensive adult support can unintentionally limit student independence and create sustainability challenges for schools and districts. \nThis webinar features Patrick Mulick\, a school district administrator\, in a systems-level discussion on rethinking student support models. Participants will examine how districts can move beyond reactive staffing decisions and toward intentional designs that promote student autonomy while strengthening staff capacity. \nThe session will highlight practical\, real-world strategies\, including the use of floater paraprofessionals and student Independence Plans\, that support more sustainable\, equitable service delivery and reduce unnecessary dependence on student-assigned paraprofessional models. \nYou’ll Learn How To: \n\nIdentify when student-assigned paraprofessional support may unintentionally limit student independence\nDesign student Independence Plans that promote autonomy and skill generalization\nIncorporate floater paraprofessionals within a thoughtful continuum of services\nStrengthen staff capacity without increasing burnout or costs\nShift district practices from dependence toward independence and empowerment\n\nThis session is grounded in practical frameworks and real-world examples that districts can apply immediately to support students more effectively while building sustainable systems over time. \nCan’t attend live? No problem. All registrants will receive a link to the webinar recording. \n \n\n \nAbout the Presenter\nPatrick Mulick\, MEd\, BCBA\nDirector of Student Engagement\, Auburn School District\nCertified Speaker\, Trainer\, and Coach\, John Maxwell Team \nPatrick Mulick is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and certified speaker\, trainer\, and coach with the John Maxwell Team. He holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in special education and behavior analysis from Gonzaga University. \nPatrick brings extensive experience supporting students with disabilities across preschool through high school settings\, with particular expertise in autism and complex behavioral needs. His work centers on strengthening adult practices\, building staff capacity\, and designing sustainable systems that support both students and educators. \nCurrently\, Patrick serves as Director of Student Engagement for the Auburn School District in Washington State and works nationally as an educational consultant. He is a recognized speaker known for translating complex challenges into practical\, actionable strategies that support educators\, administrators\, therapists\, paraeducators\, and school teams.

SUMMARY:Leadership Moves to Prevent and Minimize Escalated Behaviors in Schools
DESCRIPTION:As schools grapple with increasingly complex behavior challenges\, how leaders respond can either reinforce cycles of reactivity or help prevent escalation before it starts. Too often\, behavior challenges are addressed incident by incident\, leaving staff overwhelmed and systems strained. \nThis webinar features Patrick Mulick discussing leadership approaches for creating calmer\, more supportive learning environments. Participants will examine how school and district leaders can shift from reactive responses to proactive leadership practices that strengthen educator confidence and consistency. \nThe discussion will center on practical\, real-world strategies related to culture\, professional learning\, and clear behavior-planning tools\, with an emphasis on leadership decisions that shape consistent adult responses across classrooms and settings. \nYou’ll Learn How To: \n\nIdentify key culture shifts that strengthen adult responses to student behavior\nRecognize essential components of professional development that improve staff consistency in responding to behavior\nStrengthen adult practices to prevent escalation before it occurs\nMake behavior-planning tools clearer\, more actionable\, and easier to implement with fidelity\nAlign leadership decisions to create safer\, more predictable learning environments\n\nThis session is grounded in practical frameworks and real-world examples that districts can apply immediately to support students more effectively while building sustainable systems over time. \nCan’t attend live?
